Cyalume, the only manufacturer whose item numbers are authorized for NATO purchases, offers ChemLight light sticks. These sticks are temporary lighting devices used by Law Enforcement, the Army, Air Force, and Navy to illuminate or perform color-coded marking. Single-use, it provides bright 360° illumination visible up to 1.6 kilometers. To activate, simply bend and shake it. The higher the light intensity, the shorter the illumination duration. Non-toxic (phthalate-free) and non-flammable, it is lightweight and waterproof. It does not produce sparks and generates no heat.
