
The Military Homeland Protection Medal is a French military decoration intended to reward military personnel for their effective participation in military protection operations decided by the Government and conducted on national territory.
This medal was created by decree n°2015-853 of July 13, 2015 by the former President of the Republic François Hollande and the Minister of Defense Jean-Yves Le Drian.
This medal is awarded based on:
- operations under which missions qualify for the military homeland protection medal with the corresponding clasp
- the start and end dates of the period taken into account for its award
- the minimum participation duration required for each operation
The Military Homeland Protection Medal is made of bronze, and bears on the obverse the effigy of the Republic with the words "République Française" and on the reverse the inscription "Médaille de la Protection Militaire du Territoire".
The Clasps:
There are currently 5 clasps that can be positioned on this medal:
- ÉGIDE: since July 1, 2013 for: 30 months of assignments within units whose main mission is effective participation, on national territory, in the protection of military premises, public state buildings, international organizations and diplomatic and consular missions, as well as sixty days of effective participation in the missions described above and also twenty surveillance flights.
- HARPIE: since March 1, 2008, for military personnel who have effectively participated, on the territory of the overseas department and region of French Guiana, in the "Harpie" mission since March 1, 2008 and until a date to be specified later, for a minimum duration of thirty days, continuous or discontinuous.
- JUPITER: since July 1, 2013, for: thirty months of assignments within units whose main mission is effective participation in safety and security missions conducted for the benefit of strategic forces on national territory, as well as sixty days of effective participation in the missions described above, and also twenty surveillance flights.
- SENTINELLE: since January 7, 2015, for military personnel who have participated in the "Sentinelle" mission since January 7, 2015 and until a date to be specified later, for a minimum duration of sixty days, continuous or discontinuous.
- TRIDENT: since July 1, 2013, for military personnel who effectively participate in surveillance and military protection missions of airspace, maritime and terrestrial areas, on national territory, since July 1, 2013 and until a date to be specified later.
