The similarities between paintball and airsoft

On the similarities side, we can say that airsoft and paintball are both popular outdoor games. Games are played on different types of terrain (also read: how to find a field to practice?) where participants are divided into teams or individually. Airsoft like paintball require practitioners to own firearm replicas and ammunition.

Weapon replicas and ammunition

There are several differences, particularly regarding ammunition. Airsoft BBs are made of plastic, while paintball pellets are composed of gelatin. On the firearm replicas side, paintball pistols and rifles are not very realistic, unlike those used for airsoft which resemble real firearms.

On the paintball side, pellets containing paint are used, which makes it easy to distinguish eliminated players from others. Paintball guns are generally more powerful than airsoft guns.

On the airsoft side, ammunition doesn't leave marks on clothing, making it more difficult to differentiate eliminated players from those still in the game. You have to rely on trust. Indeed, the person must acknowledge that they have been hit and leave the playing field on their own.

Regarding ammunition, airsoft BBs have an advantage since, not containing paint, they are reusable and can even be purchased in bulk or individually. For guns, again, paintball generally costs more than airsoft. On the equipment side, airsoft once again emerges victorious from this round!

Airsoft or paintball, which is more painful?

Paintball guns are generally more powerful than airsoft guns. They fire ammunition at a higher velocity. Higher velocity means increased pain inflicted. Thus, it's not uncommon for paint pellets to leave marks not only on clothing, but also on the skin with beautiful bruises! Regardless of which sport you choose, protective equipment is essential, especially safety glasses and helmets (see our top 5 essential accessories). Airsoft guns are not only more realistic, but also more accurate and generally cause fewer injuries. In any case, make sure to maintain a safe distance and never shoot at point-blank range.

In reality, regardless of the differences between airsoft and paintball, the most important thing is that these two team sports are fun!
