The EN 15090 standard

The EN 15090 standard governs firefighter shoes for which it sets minimum requirements and test methods. The antistatic, anti-perforation protection characteristics, etc. are identical to those of the EN ISO 20345 standard. There are thus three types of shoes intended for firefighters :

• Type 1 : Outdoor use, firefighting in vegetative areas (forest, fields, grass, agricultural land, ...), no anti-perforation protection, no toe protection and no protection against chemical risks.

Type 1 shoes are categorized under different symbols: 

• F1I: Meets all regulatory requirements and antistatic requirements.
• F1PA: Meets regulatory requirements and penetration and antistatic safety requirements
• F1l: All regulatory requirements and requirements for electrical insulation shoes
• F1PI: All regulatory requirements and penetration safety requirements and requirements for electrical insulation shoes

• Type 2 : Use for all firefighting and rescue operations in enclosed structures (vehicles, ships, buildings, ...) requiring anti-perforation protection and toe protection, does not include protection against chemical risks. 

Type 2 shoes are classified under two symbols: 

• F2A: All regulatory requirements and antistatic requirements
• F2I: All regulatory requirements and requirements for electrical insulation shoes

• Type 3 : All firefighting and rescue operations requiring anti-perforation protection and toe protection, including protection against chemical risks. 

Type 3 shoes also include two symbols:
