Outdoor post in winter: dress up!

Security agents are very often called upon in December, to monitor activities related to Year-end Holidays. Christmas Market, parades, shows... many events bring families together in public places, or in performance venues. Law enforcement or private security agents then have the mission to protect participants from a potential attack, filter entry or supervise disturbances and thus avoid crowd movements. All these interventions take place outdoors, in unfavorable climatic conditions: cold, bad weather, night. The choice of fleece clothing or a softshell jacket then proves strategic, to withstand low temperatures and precipitation. But security agents may also be required to conduct night checks. It will then be essential to have reflective clothing and adequate lights.

Outdoor Security: Beware of the Cold

Surveillance of public places or the entrance to certain buildings requires remaining motionless for long hours. The temperatures characteristic of winter months accentuate the difficulty of the exercise, as the cold can put organisms to the test. Gendarmes, police officers, security agents and even military personnel may be used to it, but they must be vigilant about their equipment to accomplish their security mission under the best conditions. We know for example that below 5 degrees, standing motionless can have effects on health and performance: fatigue, numbness, loss of dexterity. Since the head and hands cool down first, major security clothing brands offer beanies, and neck warmers made of fleece or technical thermolite underwear that protect from the cold while wicking away perspiration. To remain operational, police officers or gendarmes can count on quality gloves that are both flexible and warm.

Technical Clothing for Field Operations

As everyone knows, it is preferable to layer several pieces of clothing to face the cold. From Public Road Security Agents who ensure the fluidity of pedestrian traffic to military personnel mobilized under the vigipirate plan, including police officers and gendarmes, all security officials know the importance of wearing high-performance thermal underwear to maintain body heat and regulate perspiration. A warm jacket that is waterproof is of course a key element of a winter intervention outfit. Finally, never neglect your feet!  Socks specially designed for winter help keep feet dry and warm throughout the day or night.
