Next year, in 2024, the eyes of the entire world will be turned toward Paris. The City of Light is preparing to host this major global event. As host, France has taken considerable measures to ensure the security and smooth running of the competition. To make the capital a safe and welcoming place for all participants and visitors, security agents and law enforcement will be on the front lines!
Summary:
From July 26 to August 11, 2024, the entire world will have its eyes riveted on Paris and France for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The capital has planned to welcome 16 million tourists, in addition to the 10,500 competing athletes.
Olympic athletes will compete in 28 sports and 4 additional sports. The first three have already been featured in previous editions: surfing, climbing, skateboarding. The fourth will make its grand entrance on the Paris 2024 Olympic scene: it is breaking (or breakdance). The events of this young, creative and spectacular sport will take place at Place de la Concorde on August 9 from 4 PM to 10 PM for women and the next day at the same times for men.
The major distinctive feature of these 2024 Olympic Games is the opening ceremony which, for the first time, will not take place in an Olympic stadium, but outdoors, on the Seine. The surfing event is also a major first since it will take place in an overseas territory, namely the Teahupo'o site in Tahiti.
To control this increased flow of tourists and athletes, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin announced that approximately 35,000 law enforcement members will be mobilized, in addition to the 25,000 private security agents planned for the event. The government also plans to rely on a substantial video surveillance system. To achieve these ambitious objectives, private security stakeholders plan to recruit new security agents en masse, a goal supported by the creation of a new "major events" professional card.
The 2023 Rugby World Cup is a major dress rehearsal for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Indeed, since the decree of April 20, 2022, a "major events" security agent professional card allows the exercise of surveillance and security activities in the context of sporting, recreational, cultural and economic events gathering more than 300 people. Security agents holding only this card will nevertheless not be able to exercise their activity outside of this type of event. This is a solution that was found to meet the growing need for personnel for events as important as the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
For the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, needs will be increased for all professions in the field of private security and fire safety.
