The police officers of an Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) carry out several missions with always, as their goal, the objective of fighting petty and medium crime (theft, riots, urban violence, prostitution, drug trafficking, etc.) and the protection of people and property.

These missions can take several forms and notably:

  • The surveillance of so-called "sensitive" neighborhoods;

  • The search for infractions on public roads;

  • The arrest of delinquents in cases of flagrant offenses;

  • Intelligence gathering;

  • Support during demonstrations or risky interventions.

The selections to join the BAC

  national police

To join the Anti-Crime Brigade, you must first already be part of the National Police as a peace officer, non-commissioned officer or officer. It is also mandatory to have served for at least two years after tenure. Once these conditions are validated, recruitment is done after selection and within the framework of internal transfers or on proposals for job vacancies.

These selections include 6 tests:

  • Psychological tests;

  • A shooting course;

  • A cardio-respiratory endurance test (TECR);

  • A motor skills course (PHM);

  • A professional knowledge test with multiple choice questions and writing of an arrest report;

  • An individual interview with a jury.

The training of the police officer in the Anti-Crime Brigade

After successfully passing the selection tests to become a police officer in the Anti-Crime Brigade, the candidate must follow specific training lasting 30 hours. Once this mandatory initial training is completed, the police officer will benefit from continuing education of approximately two hours per week validated by three evaluations during the year.

The career prospects and salary of the police officer in the Anti-Crime Brigade

A BAC police officer can join a local brigade that is part of a Public Security District or in a departmental BAC. This brigade will then depend on a Departmental Directorate of Public Security (DDSP). An Anti-Crime Brigade police officer can then advance by changing rank and grade. Furthermore, nothing prevents a BAC police officer from later changing service or specialty within the National Police.

Regarding compensation, this is calculated based on an index grid. Consequently, the salary of a police officer in the Anti-Crime Brigade varies according to their rank and grade. To this can be added bonuses and allowances on an occasional basis. A peace officer will start their career at minimum wage while a commander can expect to earn up to approximately $3000 net per month.
