The HK416 was selected to progressively replace the FAMAS following several months of testing in real situations and studies of the different logistics chains proposed by competing companies. The company Heckler & Koch was selected, thus winning a market valued between 300 and 400 million euros over several years.

The choice of the HK 416 is undoubtedly a pragmatic and sensible choice, and let's bet that given the harshness of the tests undergone, it is undoubtedly the best of the five that was chosen. Namely, that the choice had to be made between the HK416 and the following models: The Beretta ARX 160, the FN Herstal SCAR-L, the HS Product and VHS SIG-553.

Army 2021

The HK 416 has a NATO caliber of 5.56 mm.

It is also equipped with an adjustable stock and stock heels that adapt to the shooter's morphology. 

Two versions will equip the soldiers. The standard 90 cm version can accommodate a bayonet and perform rifle grenade shots for dismounted units and the short 80 cm version will equip embarked combatants. Both weapons will be strictly identical: adjustable sling, 4 Picatinny rails that can accommodate all accessories for a service life of 30,000 rounds without degradation of accuracy. 

The Famas was manufactured by the Saint-Etienne Arms Factory which closed its doors in 2001. Famas maintenance is still provided, but it is no longer manufactured at all.

It is a weapon that is difficult, expensive to maintain and complicated to repair if it were to be damaged. This weapon sees its advantages turn into disadvantages: its reduced bulk, its handguard with integrated grip prevents any "upgrade". It is impossible to add a tactical grip, a laser designator, a recoil-absorbing stock, a cheek rest, a 40 mm grenade launcher or even a simple scope. Adapters exist for these accessories, but above all, a major flaw remains present: its ammunition capacity.
