The different Red Dots

The red dot sight (or "Red Dot" sight), is a firearm accessory that projects a luminous dot (or reticle) on a lens. Depending on the chosen model, characteristics can vary such as shape, color, brightness, which will also impact performance. The choice is made based on weight, bulk and format. Each model will respond to a very specific use, but will all be adaptable on a top Picatinny rail.

There are several types of military sights offered by numerous brands. We will present different sights from the Holosun brand already available on our online site.

Summary:

Why use a Red Dot?

Using a Red Dot includes numerous advantages :

- It provides better accuracy and allows rapid target acquisition.

- It is more discreet than a laser, as the light beam is not projected on the target.

- It can have several sizes and several shapes depending on needs.

- Depending on the Red Dot, parallax is compensated when the user moves their head, meaning that the reticle stays close to the point of impact, regardless of the shooter's viewing angle.

 - It can be used for CQC (Close Quarters Combat).

What are the different types of Red Dots?

There are several types of red dots: reflex, holographic, tubular, etc. Apart from weight and bulk, it is mainly the format and function that will be taken into account. Indeed, standard Red Dots with large aperture (reflex for example), are used with both eyes open. Furthermore, tubular Red Dots will require sight adjustment with your dominant eye.

We will present the different types of Red Dot as well as their primary characteristics that will help you choose the model that suits you perfectly.

The Red Dot Reflex

The Red Dot Reflex is the most common red dot model. As its name suggests, its use will allow for quick target acquisition, to perform instinctive and precise shooting. It is used in situations where properly adjusting your target is not possible. No need to close one eye when aiming with a reflex sight.

The reticle can take various shapes. Depending on your needs, you can decide to place a triangle, a circle or a dot. The sight of the reflex sight is thinner than the one present on a holographic sight.

This type of sight will be a major asset during short-range engagement missions. Its format makes it a discreet sight with minimal bulk to not hinder your movements.

The Tubular Red Dot

The Red Hot Tube sight is presented in the form of a cylinder equipped with two lenses, the red dot is projected on the front lens from the rear lens.

The Red Dot Tube has a higher cost than other types of sights and will take up more space. Its bulk is greater than a reflex sight, but its range is significantly superior. Additionally, thanks to the addition of a magnifier, you will have the ability to alternate between short and medium-distance shooting. It is perfect for outdoor use with moderate distances and pairs with medium or long-sized weapons.

The Red Dot Holosight

The Red Dot Holosight functions like standard Red Dots. This type of sight allows for quick aiming with a wide field of vision while keeping both eyes open. A round dot is present in the center of the sight to ensure better shooting accuracy.

It is available in 3 sizes, named 551 (short version), 552 (intermediate version) and 553 (long version).

It has the advantages of the reflex sight and the tubular model: short and medium-range use is possible, while using both eyes open sighting.

The Red Dot RMR

The RMR Red Dots are miniature reflex sights. They function in the same way as reflex sights and are primarily intended for joint use with handguns. Additionally, they have the particularity of being able to mount directly on the slide of certain pistols.

Most often used on pistols, it can also be paired with short-range weapons like an MP5 submachine gun.

The different types of reticles

The reticle corresponds to the luminous shape projected on your sight's lens. The color and shape can vary.

To protect the Red Dot from any impact that could crack the lens, it is recommended to equip it with a protective lens.

Each sight is adapted to different situations and different environments, depending on the area where you are located. Depending on the type of weapon you use, you will need to adapt your sight choice:

- Reflex or RMR for a pistol or an SMG (Submachine Gun);

- The assault rifle is a versatile weapon, it can easily use all types of sights;

- An x8 sight for snipers.
